ACT
Titles – 18 November 2006 at Tradies Club
The
2006 ACT Titles have been moved to Saturday 18 November to avoid a
clash with another event. The weigh-in for all ACT
boxers is from 10am till 11am.
The
draw for title bouts is done immediately after weigh-in concludes,
and no changes can be made to a titles draw.
Boxers
from interstate associations seeking to compete in
non-title bouts may weigh in between 1 and 2pm if they are unable
to attend the 10am weighin.
The
pre-bout medicals are from 4.30-5.30pm and boxing commences 6pm.
Only
boxers already registered with Boxing ACT as at 25 October can box
a Title bout.
There
will be Novice and Open categories. Novices can box in Open
category if they wish. (Senior male boxers with more than 10 bouts
experience are in Open category. For all other divisions, boxers
with more than 5 bouts experience are in Open category.)
Non-title
bouts are permitted, so boxers registered interstate can box at
this tournament, but not in a Title bout.
ACT

on the form available at
http://boxingact.org.au/documents/forms/2006_acttitles_nom.pdf
The
form must be returned (preferably by fax) by Wednesday 25 October.
You must be registered as an ACT boxer by that date to nominate.
Please
read the rules for Titles on the other side of this page. To
nominate, download & complete the nomination form from the
website and fax to 6101 9902 immediately.
If
the Secretary subsequently advises you that you have no match for
a title bout, then you can arrange a non-title bout if you wish.
If you do then arrange such a bout, you need to honour that
arrangement and you must advise the Secretary asap, to facilitate
event planning.
Boxers
wishing to box a title bout: please download and complete the
nomination form and return it immediately by fax or mail. The
short period of notice has been caused by our having to bring the
tournament date forward.

Australian
Championships 2006 and 2007
The
ACT team achieved excellent results at the 2006 Australian
Champion ships in Darwin in July. Gold medallists were: Senior
male, 69kg: Gerard O'Mahony. Under 19, 81kg: Dean Reid. Under 19,
57kg: James McPherson. Under 17, 44kg: Blayden Boyles. Silver
medallists were: Senior female, 52kg: Samantha Dickinson. Senior
female, 63kg: Lupi Sitauti. Under-17, 54kg: Jake McMahon.
Under-19, 64kg: Daniel McDevitt.
Congratulations
to the team manager, all of the boxers, the coaches and the
support staff who worked very hard to make it all run so well. The
next Australian Championships will be in November 2007, at the
Gold Coast in Queensland. (ACT is now scheduled to host the event
in 2009).
We
now have just one year to build up a strong and committed squad of
boxers with the necessary skill to win medals in Queensland next
November. Senior boxers: remember that the 2007 Australian
championships will probably be used to select a national team for
Oceania 2008, which will in turn be the selection mechanism for
the Olympic Games in August 2008 in China.
Level
One Coaching Courses
Boxing
Australia has finally released the new Level One Coaching Course
syllabus. Approximately a dozen people did the L1 course in
Canberra on the weekend 7-8 October. It is possible that we will
run another course this year if there is sufficient demand. If you
are interested, we need your name, address and telephone numbers
asap, plus an indication of which dates you are available in
November/December. Email your details to coaching@boxingact.org.au
