Canberra Boxing Bulletin - Edition 31 - February 2003 Next tournament 22 February at Tuggeranong PCYC The first tournament for 2003 will be at the Tuggeranong Police and Citizens Youth Club, Grattan Court, Wanniassa on Saturday 22 February. Weigh-in is 12-2pm followed by matching. Medicals 4.30-5.30pm. Doors open 5.30 for a 6pm start. Admission is $12 for adults, $6 for youth or concession holders. The PCYC will run a canteen and a sausage sizzle prior to and during the event. The venues for subsequent tournaments on 5 Apr, 17 May, 28 Jun, 9 Aug, 20 Sep, and 1 Nov (Titles) will be advised in the next newsletter. Change of association’s name Along with most other state boxing associations, ACT Boxing has changed its name to align with the nomenclature preferred by the national body (Boxing Australia). We are now known as Boxing ACT. Coach Registrations Coaches who had not submitted their 2003 registration form and payment ($25) by 5th February are advised that their professional indemnity insurance cover has lapsed. You should submit your form and payment immediately if you wish to regain insurance cover. Unfinancial (and therefore uninsured) coaches are NOT permitted to work a boxer’s corner at a tournament. Club Affiliations All boxing clubs were sent affiliation forms weeks ago. Several have not yet been returned. Clubs which are not financial are not entitled to have their boxers weigh in at a tournament. Coaches should ensure their club’s affiliation is paid before the 22 February tournament. Boxer Registrations Boxers intending to compete at the February tournament should lodge their 2003 registration form, Competition Record Book (existing boxers), payment and photo(s) immediately. You CANNOT register at the last minute before a tournament; the registration close-off for the Feb 22nd show is ONE WEEK beforehand, i.e. 15th Feb. Please read your form carefully; supply ALL the material requested of you and do not leave questions unanswered. If you fail to provide the required information in time, you may miss out on the tournament. Forms available from our website or phone us. Australian Championships - Hobart The ACT coaching team for the 2003 Australian Championships is as follows: ACT Coach: Don Abnett; Team Manager: Marc Tawton Assistant coaches: Quinten Brown, Clayton Tidbury. New South Wales calendar of events The New South Wales boxing calendar for 2003 is available on the NSWABA internet website at http://nswaba.org.au Richard Terry departs for New Guinea Farewell to our judge/referee Richard Terry, who has been posted to New Guinea for several years. We wish him well and express our thanks for his contributions, especially as a judge and referee and for his development work on the Level One Coaching Course. Bob Chittenden is the new R/J coordinator, and we congratulate Bob on his recent award of an Order of Australia Medal. Next Level One Boxing Coaching Course The next course for people wishing to be accredited as a boxing coach is on 12-13 April. Pre-enrolment using the official form and pre-payment one week in advance is mandatory. Enrolment forms available from our website or call 62921149. Annual General Meeting The annual general meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 26 February at the Canberra RSL Club. Only financial members may nominate, be nominated, or vote at the meeting. Membership fees may be paid up till the start of the meeting. Nominations for the positions of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and 3 Board members CLOSE when the meeting opens. Arafura Games – Darwin 17-24 May 2003 The 2003 Arafura Games are held in Darwin every two years, and feature multi-sport competitions between teams from Australia and many Pacific countries. Boxing ACT is eligible to send a team to these games. Boxers must be 17 years or more, and female boxers are welcome. Selection details will be advertised in the next few weeks.
