Four Canberra tournaments this year!

ACT Boxing is pleased to announce that the NSW amateur boxing association has sanctioned 4 tournaments in Canberra in 2001.

Dates have also been allocated for tournaments in nearby Goulburn and Batemans Bay, only an hour or so from Canberra. The full NSW calendar appears overleaf.

This provides Canberra boxers and coaches with an unprecedented opportunity to gain significant amounts of ring experience in the local area. Boys from age ten can compete in ACT tournaments, the upper age limit is 34.

 Dates for  Canberra shows are:

·       Saturday 7 April

·       Saturday 2 June

·       Saturday 21 July

·       Saturday 13 October

Some of the Canberra tournaments will be held in licensed premises. This will enhance the comfort of patrons, with air conditioning, bar facilities, & meals available. Details of the venues will appear in the next edition of this newsletter.

Inter-club Sparring Day

There will be an inter-club sparring workshop on Saturday 27 January at 3pm, at the Underground Gym in Liardet St., Weston.

Coaches and boxers in Canberra and surrounds have been invited.  The Underground Gym has generously waived entry fees for participants in this sparring workshop.

Boxers will be matched on weight and will spar three rounds of 2 minutes each, under competition rules and conditions, with a timekeeper, referee and judges, but with 16oz gloves and no decision.

This is an excellent training opportunity for experienced and novice boxers alike. There is no upper age limit, both sexes welcome. For more info, call Andrew on 6259 1663
