Next Canberra show

The next Canberra tournament will be on Saturday 13 May, organised by the Canberra Police and Citizens Youth Club. Venue is the PCYC, corner Watson St & McKay Gardens, Turner. Phone  6247 0206  Bouts commence at 6pm.

Registered boxers intending to compete must attend the weighin at 1pm and the pre-bout medical exam at 5pm sharp. Bouts commence at 6pm.

All boxers must have a current registration with the NSWABA – i.e., you must have sent in your renewal form and fee this year, have had your annual medical exam, and have had your book updated and returned by the Registrar. Do not leave this till the day of the tournament.

You must bring your AIBA boxing record book with you to the weigh-in at  Turner PCYC at 1pm.

To weigh in, boxers must have a currently registered  ABA coach to work in their corner.

Coaches are reminded that it is a requirement that you wear your NSWABA trainers badge when you are working a boxer’s corner.

Boxers competing must have with them a red and a blue singlet, and must wear the appropriate colour singlet depending on the corner they are allocated. This is essential for accurate judging, especially with the electronic scoring method now in use. Wearing the correct colour singlet is a requirement, not an option.

Volunteers needed

The tournament organisers need volunteers to assist with preparation on the day, and to handle tasks (eg gloving stewards) on  the night. To help out, contact  Richard Terry at the PCYC or call Tony Whelan on 0407 266920.

Courses

The following NSWABA courses are proposed for the weekend 13-14 May, at the Turner PCYC.

These courses will be run by NSWABA officials from Sydney. To minimise un-necessary costs, courses will not be run  unless enrolment forms are received for the relevant course by 3rd May.

Level I Coaching - new Candidates

Saturday 13 and Sunday 14  May 9am ‑ 4.30pm Fee $50. This is for people wanting to act as a trainer for  boxers at ABA competitions. (You must have at least a level 1 certificate to act as a boxer's trainer in a competition.) Bring a clean towel and gym shoes as you will be required to do some practical drills.

Level I & II Coaching - Refresher Courses

For existing coaches. Saturday 13 May 9am ‑ 4.30pm Fee $30. Bring  your Yellow Log Book.

Level 11 Coaching - Seminar for new Candidates

(Must already have L1 accreditation). Sunday 14  May Fee $100.  Bring your Yellow Log Book. You will be given a Text Book and a list of questions for an open Book Examination to be completed later.

Referee and Judges course and examination

Saturday 13 and Sunday 14  May 9am ‑ 4.30pm. No fee. This is the pre-requisite for becoming a judge and referee. After completing the exam, you will need to do some practical judging experience at tournaments in the southern zone this year. Anyone over 18 (male or female) can do the course.

Enrolment

To find out more information and to get course enrolment forms sent to you, call Tony Whelan on 0407 266920. Each course will only be held if enrolment forms and payment are received by ACT Boxing by 3rd May. Courses without enrolments by that date will be cancelled.
