NSWABA 1999 Calendar
Corrections
In the last issue, there was a typo in the page two article
on Competition Safety. In paragraph 6, the reference to suspension of a medical card
should have referred to a "knockout" not "knockdown".
Also in last issue, we reported that the SA ABL and the SA
Amateur Boxing Association were going to operate as SA Boxing from January. We understand
this proposal has been delayed.
Changes
to bouts
The International Amateur Boxing Association have reduced
their international bouts from 5 rounds of 2 minutes, to 4 rounds of 2 minutes, as at 1st
January this year. NSWABA Arthur Tunstall has indicated that this change will be adopted
in title bouts here.
Training times
Boxing training in Canberra clubs is as below (women
welcome):

Kickboxing night
Plane Max Promotions present full contact kickboxing at the
Australian Institute of Sport on Saturday 27 Feb. Doors open 6pm, commences 6.30pm. $10
adult, $7 concession. WKA sanctioned. Details: phone Planet Max on 6251 5771
Boxer
registration
NSWABA advise that boxers intending to compete this year
should register now, rather than leaving it till they arrive at a competition, as this
causes delays. Contact the NSWABA Registrar, John Thompson on 02 9820 4734, or phone Tony
Whelan on 0416 036627 for a registration form.
Know your weights
Here are the weight divisions for senior amateurs:
Light fly - not over 48 kg
Flyweight - not over 51 kg
Bantamweight - not over 54 kg
Featherweight - not over 57 kg
Lightweight - not over 60 kg
Light welterweight - not over 63.5
Welterweight - not over 67 kg
Light middleweight - not over 71
Middleweight - not over 75 kg
Light heavyweight - not over 81
Heavyweight - not over 91 kg
Super heavyweight - over 91 kg
For juniors, they are:
22 kg, 25.5 kg, 28.5 kg, 32 kg, 35 kg, 38 kg, 41 kg, 44.5
kg, 48kg, 51 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63.5 kg, 67 kg, 70 kg, 73 kg, 76 kg, 79.5 kg, 82 kg
